Prompt - Write in the form of a recipe
Living @ 40
This ones easy.
The 30s was a shocker,
top of the hill, all too early,
but it’s aftertaste makes
the transition easier.
First, perforce take a stock
of your wide and varied accumulations of
love, hatred, regret, health,
in a few cases wealth and
maybe the salt and pepper in your hair.
Next begin with generous
doses of friends and family,
who by now are a lot easier on the eye
than before and must be kept close at hand
as required binding agents
to the rest of the upcoming forty.
The larger the space in the heart,
the better it is to process all the
emotions with spoonfuls of warmth.
That is the fire,
that is the pot,
that is where most of the
burning and cooling will take place.
In the process the mind
subtlety enlarges and thoughts get clarified.
When it gets too hot to handle
which it will from time to time,
with fears, anxieties, despair,
loneliness and with the bones simply
not keeping pace, while on the outside the
skin may still manage the occasional
glow of the 30s, simmer it down with
deep breaths, or a fast run or simply
with a game of carrom with the kids,
according to your preference.
Nevertheless, there will also be a strange
compound of joy wafting mixed
with cool acceptance of life as is and
you as you were made
and it will all seem like meant to be.
While old dreams will be coming
off the sides, and some hopes of the old life
will be wearing thin, replace them with new futures
containing dreams for others while stirring
continuously so nothing sticks to
the sides of this incomprehensible stuff called life.
Allow the meaning to sizzle for a while
and at last temper it with the understanding
that you are surrounded only with
energy bundles journeying along similar
trajectories with no more nor less
concerns of the energy bundle called yourself.
